Teaching is an entirely separate skill from playing music, and John is a true master of both. His fine attention to detail helps him pass on the same lift and drive that make him such a sought-after legend when it comes to playing for dancers.

Irish Music Workshops for All Instruments

John also teaches tune-learning classes for all instruments, conveying the essence of traditional Irish music through rhythm and phrasing. As a sterling example of John’s cross-instrument teaching, although John does not play the piano accordion, his former student Karen Tweed went on to become a five-time All-Ireland champion on that instrument.

Email John at whelanbx1@me.com for more information about group classes, tune-learning workshops, and one-on-one teaching to hone your rhythm and phrasing.
